The Startled Bronze: A Vision
Once in light I saw her mind
(Charcoal & the imprints of butterflies)
Now I know her eyes are categorical & burnt
Into the memory of ink
As I trace the outline of her face
With a brand.
And we made love in a landscape of startled bronze
As horses galloped in our veins
And the secret rains started
And she scattered the air
With dark hands
In the land
And the level (of consciousness).
And now I know her hair
As I explore
The cosmetic dawn of her impulse
And I know all of this tongue -
Motive or feelings cut like a spine
I know the horizon of our thoughts
Curved as a complex sea
I know her eyes -
Boned in the wilderness of bronze
I know the naked torso & the sash -
Abandoned in the suddenness of rivers
(Their discourse)
I know the peaks - poised with a touch of snow & theory
I know the nipples - black with blood
I know the horses in our veins are of the sea
(Adrenal with that mood & needle)
And I know the pen
That sketches this violent light in ink -
The mind imbricate with light & metal
And beauty burns
The snow in the mouth
And begins itself to burn
As our lips are lashed
With a catalyst
Of white rain.
And when we become fixed like rage
And describe this image in a latent metal
Then we will endure in ink
For a thousand years
Here -
On this page (or rage)
Of startled bronze.
