The Design Engineers’ Swimming Party
John plunges in and the blue, sleeping water
Shatters into twelve thousand elements.
After the splash, whose is that frenzied laughter?
Staid water, used for teeth and Alpine plants,
You’ve turned into a chaotic medium
Of gaiety and riot. On your skin
Dance bits of light. For you, the tedium
Of clothes and rules and screens is traded in.
Don’s lost his eyes. What are those carbon rings
Stuck on his hairless head?
Look, Brian and Phil
Streak under water like pale, finny things,
Each in the lonely swim-womb of his will.
Jeanette smiles, blinks, as if not fully woken,
Her blonde hair glistens, floats, spreads out, is shaken.
