Wayside Shrine
Three dead bouquets
lie shriven by the wind
stems dry as pilgrim bones
all petals blown away.
Here everything
is black and white
the only colour left
pale cellophane
which flutters
in the slipstream
like a final hand wave;
yet no spirits haunt
this grassy verge
only three dead
bouquets.
