Boathouse
When I saw the mist this morning I thought
I hope it's not misty a fortnight on Tuesday when
we will go and look at what is to be looked at,
make a mess of the rest.
Can I help you?
says an usher in the cathedral, but I'm not convinced.
Instead we will stand on the spot for taking photographs
and take a photograph.
A school group
runs down to the boathouse. Private
close-cropped lawns, each with a dog,
define the space down to the river.
A squall whips up the trees, flips over the leaves,
twists and busts, flaps the tarpaulin on the tower.
Girls confide in the lee of the south transept.
It is going dark early.
