One Day
The sky above the pigeon lofts
is stippled daily
with spasmodic formation flying
by pampered birds with map pin eyes.
I prefer their city centre cousins
crowding the parks for pasty crumbs,
underfoot CCTV extras who
by night are accidentally shut
in the shopping mall,
an airy aviary
with stationary escalators,
switched off fountains
and an audience of rigid mannequins
behind their deceptive glass
as they soar and swoop
from level to empty level
showing us how it will be one day.
