Imagine Waking
Imagine waking
to the sound of rain,
and leaving your love asleep,
quietly opening the door
and running barefoot
through the sweet, wet grass.
Then seeing their face
framed in the window,
a puzzled childlike smile
on their lips,
before they run to join you
in this, the perfect cliché
Well it’s only a cliché
because it’s true, they say,
but what did you do
the last time
you woke
to rain?
