A Call Through Misty Eyes (text)
The wrecked fence
Leads to an eerie manor.
Invasive creepers hosting insects
Scramble along damp walls
To mate with branches
Lacing above loosely.
Like a lily in a
Thick cactus hedge,
A lean light dims
In a window.
An old man sits
In a wheelchair.
His father’s gramophone
Sings beside him.
I stood in front
Of the door-less cabin.
I have wool over my skin
He has skin over his bones.
His fingers tremble in cold.
Repeatedly he calls out a name
Which turns me around-
But there was none else.
The old man smiled
And I too.
His misty vision mistook
Me as someone familiar
And I was no more a tramp.
