afterthought
Seed
don't swim into
anything but
space
I want
enormous darkness
inside me,
unnatural
emptiness,
not small fingers and
bodies all lodged and
lost, all growing up
into the impossible
accident of
existence - all
assuming names
and later on
having feelings.
Seed
stop at the first sign of
discovery
I don't want a
circus or
enormous responsibility
I don't want
intruders or
burrowers or
anything my own shape
can't define.
Turn back
before darkness
blinds you, don't let
the pale and
shaky
tempt you.
Don't fumble
when you sense the
bars, don't feed
anything too
fierce.
My godmother is
wise - she
dazzles me! Like you
she appears
suddenly and
smiles wearing
a grey suit and
says, quite
defenceless,
she can't foresee
anything.
Don't go,
she says,
if the gates
are closed, never
love an
audience, don't marry
an animal trainer.
Seed
I don't want you swigging
my cool
statistical juices
though I don't expect
a fair execution.
I'd couple with
snakes for
your sake,
mate with
mirrors.
So
be disciplined,
don't stretch
or sink,
don't labour with the moon.
You pump
inside my breast
to the music of
blood
your bones crack
like bells
to feed the heart alive.
