Plastic Fruit
I love all sorts of plastic fruit, with
their almost intangible feeling of
German Baroque.
Hideously purple bunches of grapes.
Big, shiny bananas & pears,
useful for all sorts of situations
& decorative effects.
They all remind me
of that period in German art, though,
when Italian influence was just
beginning to seep through.
The feel of plastic fruit, too,
brings on echoes of Gustavius Adolphus,
Wallenstein & the like.
I wish I could explain this, but
I can’t.
Plastic roast chickens are
much nicer. No reminders of
seventeenth-century Germany
& they look so convincing.
I always wanted to put a little
motor in one, with wheels &
a radio-control gadget like they
use for toy cars.
That’d be fun.
