Yet Another Day
Yet another day,
the mirror reflecting every repetitive day,
hurries with me towards home.Reflecting its grey and orange colours
in the old tin-roofs of the town
and synchronising its steps with mine
it submerges itself
in the darkness of the night
at the final sad moment
like just another wind-swept leaf.I close my door
against the town
I close it against the night
while it approaches the streets, slowly, on tiptoe. Then
in the emptiness of solitude
I gaze at moments
that have been shattered
under the enormous weight of regret.Riding the scattered pieces of the bygone day
along a slope that descends towards a void
in the emptiness of solitude
my gaze flies once again
towards the banks of Karoon (1)
towards the thirsty lips of the Great Salt Desert (2)The green dreams of Alborz mountain-slopes (3)
the blue chants of the free waves of the Caspian Sea
summon me towards them.
Yes; I can see them, I can hear them.Oh, God!
Half of me is over there
and another half
wandering along the way.
Who is it that is here then
so restless, so silent?Yet another day
gets submerged in the darkness of the night.[July 1998]
