Waltzing with my Daddy
I would have stood on his feet
feeling his shoelaces through
my little socks, if he had lived.
He would have enclosed my fists
in his holding hands and laughed
down at me laughing up. Waltzing,
he would have sung instructions
to the tune of Blue Danube or
Gold and Silver: one two three.
He would have told me I was
the best waltzer and I would have
told him that when I grew up
I would marry him.
