Colwyn Bay
Late evening, and the pier is as black as an old iron bedstead
that has been thrown into the sea.
The wind blows inshore, is full of sleep.
The town is one long street.
It has closed eyes.
Only the video shop blinks;
and the chip shop stinks
of fish and vinegar.
Beer is breathing onto the doorsteps of pubs,
and one that was a cinema, and has the best beer,
is projecting light into the night.
We take our chips and drink to the room of our B&B,
see Welsh Channel 4 on T.V
It seems like the edge of the world.
We soon drop off.
