Green darlings
Coming out
of the blue
climbing down
from an old oak boss
spitting buds
you root
your sappy tongue
surprise my retiring.
On the cloister cobbles
a magnolia bloom
- its second flowering -
indifferent to the curfew.
Now in my bag
it dries
to feel at home.
Later while walking the lane
after songs in stone
rise and come again
an oak leaf's crackle in July
disturbs you
but my love,
my love's circling loops
autumn early.
I told you.
You round on me with an ageless wish goodnight:
so my appley pulp, my fizz
is rotting sweetly for the press.
That windfalls in old orchards
should be so lucky!
When I was looking for my stick
viridescent limbs coveted
my snappishness.
A forked hazel branch
divined a rush of chlorophyll
and your mouth, your nose, your ears
couldn't stem those lusty hymns of growth,
We found a misericord today
harbouring another green darling.
'Like a pelvis' you said 'uterus'
but I can't bed your seed
which sometimes kids
my resurrected breasts with silk
and glosses my thin lining silver
like the moon
slipping through churchyard yews
and stained glass
to spin
a gasp of men around their columns.
