I can wait
For the last train/plane/boat or bus,
for the last chance plan/lover or saloon,
for my/your last minute change of sex/
heart or mind. He/she/they/we can't/won't
sing/cook/dance or tell the time, but I
can hold on or off, hang about and on,
for the right/wrong time to call/go back/
find my creased/lost/void no time barred/
expenses spared return. Can laugh/cry/
question and plead -seize the platform/
world or stage, tap dance/torture/tease
until the audience: enemies/friends/tinkers/
tailors/soldiers/sailors laugh/cry/applaud
or get up and leave. Can wait in the light/
dark wings for the right/wrong second/
minute to find my needle/thread/head/
keys or match, for you to catch my cold/
snow drift/madness/last train home.
Have my ticket/luggage/coffee/name/
unbearable book/life/magazine. I'm waiting
for the right time to lose my rag/the plot/
my mind to throw down/up or away my gauntlet/
breakfast/lunch and dinner/ his/her home address/
photograph and number, to break your/my neck/
date or fate, to discard in this strange time/city/
world my atlas/A to Z/inaccurate map,
before you can say/understand or underline
a single word.
