The gilded night boat
The gilded night boat
Makes its way down the tousled foliage,
Despite the river and wind direction,
Upstream.In pubs, darts’ feathers gleam
And girlish laughter rings out,
And black drug-pushers
Hang around in the exit. Here a crumpled, sweaty, crowded monster
Swills beer and gazes.
And somewhere, inured to everything,
A boy leaves the movies. How bosoms strain at new dresses!
Heels clatter their iron!
And drunks with tattoos
Wail a song by Lennon. In my soul sleeps a gay with chains.
But the boy is the image of Brad Pitt!
You’re right, my friend, covered in puke,
I know “Love is all you need”.Forward, the bugler! At story’s end
To say: “Thanks, captain:
In Greenwich Observatory
It’s great, your meridian.”
