from El Miedo (1986)
Digression of Fossils
Like an exploding star the signal disperses.
What remains is the measured peace of agreement,
the calm certainty of a journey
washed residue of the mystery
now sleepy with resignation. Then all of life contracts in the veins,
line becomes a craziness of metal,
to reappear, barely
when the marble of love
polishes its new configuration of lines and shadows. So the mummy always releases dust to the touch
and the dust gathers and oozes, attentive
inside the rigid circle of time. But in us something
lets go and falls away
every day.
