Agrimony
The sting of lemon in your kiss
pulls splinters from a wound
untangles dreams and strengthens
whatever is out of joint
in thickets and all waste places.
Spikes of yellow flowers
acrid at the edges of meadows
and a small, sweet-scented root
are a mild astringent and tonic
for such as are bitten by serpents.
Soft and slightly aromatic
your much-cut-into leaves
downy above and more densely so beneath
have the power of putting to sleep
the man who lays you beneath his head
with the scent of crab-apple, apricot, quince.
