from Letter from Memory

The body sat
the body ate
glanced at the alarm-clock
and leapt to its feet
and began to sweat
put on clean underwear
and tore along
and flew in the air
and hardly made it
didn’t want tea or coffee
sang huskily to a guitar
and loved someone’s body
sadly, tenderly and uneasily.
