Fatalism and Fortune Telling Amongst Women Factory Workers
More in hope
than anticipation, this one wants
something for herself
to carry hidden,
to take out of her purse, to look at
when she has a moment,
a pretty thing:
you know you have an admirer don’t you dear?
Looking down, I read the future clear,
her skull is fragile as a tea cup.
The next seven years will be no worse
and no better than the last.
