Touching
He sits on the floor beside her as she queues.
She strokes his hair.
He’s drawing a yellow and green tiger
with blue legs and a red tail.
Each time the queue moves he shuffles along.
He’s getting filthy but she isn’t cross.
She strokes his hair.
She thinks muck and scribbling keep him happy.
He thinks she’s being nice because
he’s drawing the best tiger in the world.
He gives it bright blue eyes
and makes it smile
in pink.
