A Lovley Day For It
Air was the edge of a brick up here
in the winter. I’ve got one arm
bent like the wing of a duck
against my side.
This man’s legs, coming down,
are brittle on their hinges
and he must have thought
– wrench him an uphill smile –
that I was feeling myself with intent.
But he’s wearing unsightly shorts,
which makes me care less.
A woman with a bowl cut gets me next,
randomly running my knuckles
past my ribs and down to my waist
(wondering if horses
like the way their muscles move).
I’ve got a spray of cow parsley on a stalk
and as I reach the top
I turn it into confetti and throw it about.
