Christopher Middleton lives in Austin, Texas, and is the author of many collections of verse and essays and is also renowned as a translator of German literature. His most recent book is Selected Writings (Paladin paperbacks), which covers his poetry, prose and essays. Two Horse Wagon Going By and 111 Poems are also available from Carcanet. His prose work Serpentine is still available from Oasis Books in London. Peter deRous lives in Derby, England, and has appeared in a number of little magazines. David Miller lives in London and is the author of a number of small-press books, including Darkness Enfolding - Eight Stories and Pictures of Mercy (Stride) as well as a critical study. W.H. Hudson and the Elusive Paradise (Macmillan). Marianne Larsen comes from Copenhagen, and is one of the most popular poets of her generation in Denmark A selection of her work appeared in the USA in 1982, published by Augustinus/Curbstone. Yann Lovelock’s own work has already appeared in Shearsman. His most recent translations (from Dutch/Flemish) are of Willem Roggeman (Forest Books, 1989) and Anton van Willerode (Lanoo, Belgium, 1990). Forest Books will also shortly publish his translations with Theo Hermans of H.C. ten Berge. Joseph Guglielmi was born in Marseille in 1929 and now lives in Paris. His most recent books are Le mouvement de la mort (P.O.L., Paris) and Das, la mort (Editions Parerithèses, Paris). Spectacular Diseases published Rosmarie Waldrop’s translation of his Dawn in 1991. Serge Gavronsky, poet and translator, teaches at Columbia University, New York. Among his many publications is the novel The German Friend (SUN, New York, 1984). The translation published here will appear with an accompanying interview in a volume called Ecriture, the French Mind from the University of California Press. Further excerpts will appear in subsequent issues of Shearsman.
