Che for Beginners
Let me start again with you
I will be mysterious, like Ernesto.
My voice will darken and deepen
And promise much more than it can
Deliver, but my fingers will be practised
And immediately perfect. My tongue
Will know the exact shape of Cuba
Especially the Sierra Meastra
Where the vegetation is most lush
And damp and streams.
I will be full of danger
Like a north London kettle
Balanced on an unattended hob
In January, February and March.
