always
always a bright lad but touched with the fairy wand of discalcularia and dislexia a tad i had to figure ways to prognosticate the up-the-road problems i would make. i think i learned to run with the twists when my love for words and ideas led me to poems that were spittleshite but harbored a pony in the pile someplace there to be dug up and recognized/disclosed even when (as George Oppen said) it was withheld (because that itself is a form of disclosure) the way hard little balls of excrement either in accretion or decretion are a revelation of buildup and repulsion in the curses that are the verses that don't rime or ring but settle with a thud or a squish like a wish and a longing you can't better than expel and call it a poem which is like my mom's story of the man who said he couldn't be moved with dynamite and so took both the tea of senna leaves and prunes quadrupled in strength and ended in a swoon in his elephant pile of poop and awoke to the sight of the organ grinder's monkey on his bathroom window ledge (who'd leaped-up-there who knows how or why) and uttered this acceptance: you're an ugly little critter but i love you cause you're mine. - what is this karma? bar the doors, light some incense, repeat this mantra first: OM PADMOSNISA VIMALE HUM PHAT (it is said in the Ksitigarbha Dasackra Sutra that whosoever see, hears, remembers or touches this mantra will be purified of all negativity and gain freedom from rebirth in the lower regions). I see it like the way i understood confession in the Niagara Falls childhood-that it defaulted you back to being pure, sweet, and worthy of fresh bedlinen.
